Query Letter Clinic
We’ve all heard the old adage, “You never have a second chance to make a first impression.” When it comes to approaching literary agents and publishing house editors, your first impression is your query letter, and your query letter needs to be first-rate if you hope to receive serious consideration from publishing professionals. In this hands-on query letter clinic you will learn the four parts of a successful query letter: the hook, the book summary, the author info, and the closing paragraph. You will learn how to include enough info to whet an agent’s appetite while still keeping your query letter to that all-important single page. You will learn what key phrases to include, and what key phrases to avoid, in your query.
This class is appropriate for both fiction and nonfiction book authors. Handouts include examples of both “good” and “bad” query letters, a query letter template with guidelines on structure and format, and a list of query letter do’s and don’ts.
